As one of the world famous resorts, the Maldives has been admired for its magnificent scenery and excellent services. However, with crowded streets, frequent traffic congestion, lack of open space and high quality recreation for local residents, the overall situation of Male Island, the capital of Maldives, is not optimistic. How to create an area with modern designs to deal with current situation of Male while retaining local history and culture? Through several site investigations, we summarize the characteristics of the natives and six major demands according to current urban status. Furthermore, based on the sea reclamation strategy of Maldives, the north cargo terminal will become a central open space for tourists and local residents after its function adjustments.
