The North Harbour Urban Renewal Project in the Maldives aims to transform the North Male Marina and its surroundings into a landmark area with high end dining/entertainment/green open space/IMAX cinema and other functions. It will be a multi-purpose attraction for local residents and tourists to visit, shop and relax. The scheme will also alleviate traffic congestion in the northern part of Male'. The architectural design utilizes conservation renewal, preserving the gray brick floors of the core landscape. Through collage and juxtaposition, the old textural forms are combined with new urban functions and spaces. A glass walkway and a visitor center are added along the coast to allow visitors to have a better view of the local landscape. The design of the walled corridors evokes the memory of the Maldivian history and increases public space and connectivity.
